Last January I challenged myself to Shed 300 in 30 Days which helped me declutter my home. It was a success in my home. In fact, I was surprised how easily it was to discard 10 items from each location. I was even more surprised at how we didn’t miss the items I purged. Still, I wanted a chart to declutter my home because I am a visual person and I like tracking my accomplishments.

Since last year was such a success, I believe this same idea can be completed yearly…at least. I decided to keep the same idea but change the format. This year instead of finding out which area you will be cleaning on facebook and twitter each day, I will give you all 30 areas at once. No more coming back each day, which sometimes is hard to do. With my chart to declutter your home you can Shed 300 items in 30 Days! You are able to see all 30 areas each day and in a sense choose your own adventure. Are you going to tackle your hardest area the first day or leave it until the end?

Are you going to involve your entire family? I plan on selectively involving my family. In some areas I will make the purging decisions myself. In other areas I will let them choose 10 items. They were good decision makers last year and I think this it is a valuable lesson to teach. If they are not using or loving an item let it go so there is less to clean up.

How does this exactly work? First you will need to print off your challenge chart to declutter your home. Each day choose one area you would like to purge and purge/eliminate 10 items. These are not items that are in the wrong location. These are items that will be leaving your home for good. Once you have purged 10 items go back to the chart and cross off that location. There are a few spaces that ask you to choose your own location. You know what these locations are in your home. Write those in and tackle them on the day you choose.

Purging to me means to eliminate the items from your home. Either donate it or throw it in the garbage. If it is well used then throwing it away in the garbage is easy. Donating seems to be a little harder and more of an inconvenience. I would suggest collecting your donated items in a large garbage bag. Once it is full or at the end of the challenge drop off your items at your chosen donation location. This way you do not need to go out of your way each day for this challenge but all your donated items are out of the area and ready to go.

    I like this idea of taking 10 items per area to declutter, I’ll have to adapt this for my own home.

    I love this! I keep my house pretty decluttered, but there are areas that I don’t use and every once in a while I notice there’s a bunch of stuff I don’t need. I never take the time to go through them though. I’ll be downloading that printable, thanks! Found you on Bacon Time!

    Thanks for sharing! I actually love purging and decluttering, it feels so good! There are definitely a few areas that I’ve been avoiding thought…ahem, front entrance closet and junk drawers. Thanks for motivating me to get it done!

    We are in process of starting to declutter our home – we have so much stuff we no longer need and definitely need to get it all out of the way. I will be printing this off thats for sure!

      I find is everything easier when it is broken down into smaller manageable steps. With this challenge I often find myself going over 10 items but there is nothing wrong with that!
