Embellished Cuff

Do you have a leather or pleather coat or purse that you do not want anymore? If the answer is yes then you have the main material for our Embellished Cuff. This is the perfect idea for my Little Chefs because they absolutely LOVE reusing items instead of throwing them away. They are constantly trying to come up with something they can make with items that are not being used anymore. The Embellished Cuff is so fun to make because the possibilities are endless. You can use anything that ...

Bird Feeder

Spring is here! The trees and flowers are in bloom. And we are starting to see and hear more & more birds! The Little Chefs have been worried that the birds are "starving" because we have no food for them in our backyard. Their grandparents have a big bird feeder in their backyard - and the Little Chefs love to watch and learn about the local birds. And also like to know that they are getting enough to eat, especially for the baby birds. Backyard bird feeders come in all different ...

Summer Calendar

When spring hits I start to think ahead to school getting out and the beginning of summer. This year for me it is very different because we recently moved which meant a new school which unfortunately is a year round school. While some of my Little Chefs will still be in school I still have more Little Chefs at home who want to go out and do things. Summer is the best time when it is warm to do a lot of investigating of our local sites as well as road trips. To help aid in planning fun summer ...

Summer Fun Sailboat

The weather is getting warmer!! And my Little Chefs LOVE to play outside......especially if there is water involved! So we came up with a Summer Fun Sailboat that is one of those easy crafts for kids. Water + Sun + Little Chefs = Hours of Fun and Happiness!!! The Little Chefs wanted to do a fun activity outside today, and because we had just walked in the door from school......I had no ideas for an activity.  I asked them to look around for an idea and find supplies  to make ...

Teacher Appreciation – Pie Chart

Teacher Appreciation is in full swing at our school. The PTA sent out a schedule with what each student should bring/wear/do for that day. My Little Chefs have also told me there are fun posters up all over the school about the teachers. It is funny how easy crafts make something simple even more special. I hope the teachers are loving it as much as my kids are! Here is a door idea pie chart style! If you have a lot of students in your class you might need to make two pie charts on the ...

Teacher Appreciation

Teacher appreciation is coming up, the week of May 6th - 10th!! And like so many of you, I am so very grateful for the wonderful teachers in my Little Chefs life! They are truly amazing. So, put it on your calendar to give them a big THANK YOU for all they have done. Add in a printable or easy crafts to make it extra special. I am the Head Room Parent for Little Chef B's class.  Since, he is my oldest, and this is my first experience with all of this. It has been, at times - overwhelm...

Scrabble Wafers

National Scrabble Day is this Saturday. Little Chef D is learning how to read. I thought it would be fun to turn reading into playing with food! I first showed her how we were going to play. I wrote a few letters with frosting on the tops of a few Vanilla Wafers. I made some words and asked her to read them. At one point we read "ad" words switching out the beginning consonant.   She had so much fun she wanted to create some words on her own. When she had plenty of wafers out (for ...

Space Craft

National Space Day is coming up in the beginning of May! My Little Chefs love everything and anything to do with space. So, to celebrate - we wanted to make our own Space Ships!! What a fun space craft. We thought of a clever way to not only recycle some of our old CD's, but to also use some of the plastic Easter eggs that were still lying around the house! The Little Chefs LOVE these type of crafts - because there are no rules! They can use and make what ever type of Space Ship they ...

Phases of the Moon

In addition to the Space Ship Craft - I thought it would be fun to teach my Little Chefs the different Phases of the Moon.  Each night, especially in the summer time, they love to find the Moon - to see what "shape" it is. I have said before, that my Little Chefs and I LOVE Oreos! And while eating them one day, Little Chef E realized that the creme looked like a Moon. So I thought - what a fun way to teach them the different Phases of the Moon.....with Oreos! MoonPhases     ...

General Conference Packet

This weekend we have the wonderful opportunity to listen to General Conference. To any readers who might not be familiar with General Conference or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, go here or here to learn more about both. I know that it is a struggle at times for the Little Chefs to sit and watch Conference. So each year we try new and fun ideas to help keep their attention while listening to the Conference talks. Here are a few ideas that we are using this year! &nbs...

DIY Hair Accessories using the glue gun!

Hair accessories, too many, no way! My Little Chefs are always on the lookout for something new. With 4, possibly 5 girls we have a need for many different sizes, types and styles. I love shopping the clearance deals at craft stores! I love it even more when all the clearance is an additional 90% off! That is exactly what recently happened. I went into the store not expecting to find a lot, but secretly hoping there still are some good things there. It is SUPER hard to actually browse any store ...

Melted Crayon Eggs – Coloring Easter Eggs

Melted Crayon Eggs is a PERFECT way of coloring easter eggs quickly. In fact its a great way to color a lot of eggs at once. I just love easy crafts! Remember when Little Chef D enjoyed making her Butterfly Melted Crayon Art?  We learned from that experience that grating crayons is a hard and long task if you do it by hand, but the result of melting the crayons is beautiful. We wanted to apply that technique to eggs. Ingredients: Hot hard boiled eggs Variety of crayons Grater ...

April Fool’s Free Printable

My Little Chefs LOVE April Fool's Day which is why I created this April Fool's Free Printable. The problem I have is they remember everything I do so somehow I need to do it bigger and better the next year. One of Little Chef A's favorite's was when I switched what was in her cookies package with nuts. She said she was confused for a moment and then remembered it was April Fool's Day. What I learned from that experience was the fact that I should have put a message in the package so that she ...

Stitched Easter Egg

Where did the idea of a Stitched Easter Egg come from? I was taught how to cross stitch by my Mom when I was young. I started with small easy projects and progressed to large ballet themed pictures with MANY colors and details. I thought my Little Chefs were ready to begin learning this skill. Easter Eggs are so fun to decorate because there are no limitations. We decided to learn how to do a few simple stitches on egg shaped plastic canvas'. Ingredients plastic canvas plastic canvas ...

Countdown to Easter

Countdown to Easter with some fun activities! The excitement and anticipation my Little Chefs have the week leading up to any holiday seems uncontainable! They NEED to decorate the house even more, do more easter crafts, plan more activities....they love celebrating anything really. This Easter Countdown is a fun way to contain all that energy, at least a bit of it! If they know I will be doing something Easter related each day they will be super excited for that one activity and then use ...

St Patrick Day Scavenger Hunt

A St Patrick Day Scavenger Hunt is always a hit with my Little Chefs! On that special day the leprechauns will be out roaming your homes and schools for the fun and enjoyment of all the little ones. It makes the day fun! That is what is so great about this St. Patrick's Day Scavenger Hunt. To make things a ...

Dr Seuss Craft – “There’s a Wocket in my Pocket”

Dr Seuss Day is this Saturday! My Little Chefs LOVE Dr Seuss books. We celebrate each year with fun crafts, treats, and read our favorite books. One of our favorite books is There's a Wocket in My Pocket! And who doesn't just love this book of ridiculous rhymes! Strange creatures with even stranger names, living on ordinary pieces of furniture and areas around a little boy's home.  After reading this book, my Little Chefs decided they wanted to create their very own strange creature! They ...

Butterfly Melted Crayon Art

What do you do with all your broken crayon pieces? We make crayon melting art. It is an easy craft that is fun to do for a family night or when friends come to play. It seems every time my Little Chefs get out the box of crayons they are not fully picked up and either I step on one and break it in two, or Little Chef H thinks it is fun to break the crayons in two. She thinks she is so strong to be able to do this! I have a hard time throwing them out because I know there HAS to be ...

“DOH” You you want to be my Valentine?

With all the candy around at Valentine's Day (and don't get us wrong, we LOVE conversation hearts and cinnamon bears) we try to give a little more love than just candy. This year we decided to give a homemade playdough Valentine gift to all the Little Chef's friends. This playdough recipe we created by combining a couple different recipes.  We LOVE this recipe because  it is so smooth and not crumbly, it will last forever (I think I just threw away a batch from last October!),  and the ...

Fold-Out Heart Card

We have been having fun with origami and paper lately. Some attempts have been successful, while others have failed miserably. If I can't figure out the directions to teach it to my Little Chefs quickly they get bored and distracted and move on to something else. This fold-out heart card was one of our successful attempts. It was also fun because Little Chef C was immediately able to write a valentine for Grandma and Grandpa. Not only was she able to show them her creative work, but she was ...

Heart String Theory

February 1st is just a few days away. As I have said before my Little Chefs LOVE holidays. This year, starting on February 1st, we are going to make a paper heart garland. For each act of love shown for another family member one heart will be added to our garland. We are excited to see how long our garland will be come February 14th! To get them excited about the idea we all sat down with different colors of construction paper in valentine colors; red, pink and white. They each practiced ...

Stitched Heart Garland

I made this super cute Stitched Heart Garland with my girls because it is an easy craft for our Valentine's Day decor and for one more very important purpose. This craft has two objectives: Valentine's Day is coming soon and my Little Chefs LOVE holidays! They love the food, the surprise, and especially love decorating! They find any boxes of decorations that I have and decorate the house themselves. If I do not have enough to make our home or their rooms festive enough they MAKE ...

Marble Painting

My Little Chefs LOVE to paint! Whenever we are painting the house inside or out they want to help. Anytime they see their paints they want to do it NOW. I have a love/hate relationship with paint because it can be so messy with little ones! I always seem to have a little one who makes the biggest mess. I have seen people paint with cars or trucks, but at my house those are not common toys. Then I had an idea! We just went to a case lot sale at a local grocery store and after storing the ...
