General Conference Packet Updates

As you may know in October 2015 The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints sustained 3 new apostles to the Quarem of the Twelve Apostles. I previously created a get to know the LDS Apostles. Now that it is outdated I had some work to do. These new 3 apostles have been so hard to search for and find fun facts. If you know of any other fun facts that would be great for this activity please let me know. Make sure you go back to the main Get To Know The LDS Apostles link.  (for ease I ...

Candy and Ice Experiment

One thing I want to instill upon my children is that there are many people in this world besides them. When we only think about ourselves we are not aware of the ways we can help others. I seem to be teaching this to my kids over and over again. It does become redundant unless I find a new analogy to use to make it seem like a new and exciting concept. Through the Junior Ranger Program they learned the difference between the two. Stalactites hold tight to the ceiling while stalagmites might reach the ceiling. This science experiment is fun to watch each day as the crystals grow a little more and a little more. Grow Your Own Stalactites and Stalagmites Supplies Needed:  2 glass jars spoon shallow dish or ...

Shadow Chalk Experiment

I love teaching my kids through play or in other words through active learning. They have fun through discovery while not realizing they are learning something new. This past weekend I taught my kids about the movement of the sun while playing with chalk on a sunny day. For this shadow chalk experiment we traced some shadows and later came back to those objects, still in the same place. The first observation my kids made was that the shadow moved. What happened and why does that happen they ...

Color Sight Word Worksheets for Kids

We have been practicing how to spell color words with our color songs. The next step is to use manipulatives as part of our active learning. A common toy or object combined with printables for kids transforms learning into fun. Use these Color Sight Word Worksheets for Kids and pipe cleaners to reinforce how to spell color words with touch. Studies have shown that we learn better when we are using our senses. The information you are learning is processed with more connections and ...
