Fire Wire Beef Kabobs

Labor Day is just a few days away and that means more grilling! While I do not let my Little Chefs grill I still believe they can participate in the preparation of the meal. This week we are offering you a Labor Day BBQ Meal.

My thoughtful sister got me a product I hadn’t seen before wondering if it would be easy for the Little Chefs to use as a new way to make kabobs. Fire Wire Stainless Steel Flexible Grilling Skewer, Set of 4 is sold at Amazon as well as other online locations. With my new baby making 5 Little Chefs it is difficult to WANT to take everyone to go shopping. When I do shop it is for a purpose only, not for pleasure. We rush as quickly as possible getting as many things on our list until we make a big enough scene or until I’m done telling them no and we check out. Because of this I have been shopping more online then ever before. It is so convenient to have things arrive at my doorstep a few days later without fighting my kids. I do not know if Fire Wire is sold in stores because as previously stated I do not shop for pleasure.

For our Labor Day BBQ Meal we are making Fire Wire Beef Kabobs. Beef Kabobs or any type of kabobs are fairly easy for kids because it is mainly just assembly. Cut your choice of beef or chicken, green peppers and onions into the same size and approximate shape.

Create whatever pattern you choose when putting the ingredients on the Fire Wire. My Little Chefs found it difficult at first to put the meat on, but then realized they needed to use their big muscles, then they were successful. The “needle” end is thick but the wire in the middle is much narrower making it easy to push back and forth.

When all your ingredients are on the Fire Wire season well. We first drizzled olive oil pretty liberally on the meat, peppers and onions. Then Little Chef H used freshly ground pepper, and garlic salt to season everything.

Little Chef Dad threaded the needle through the opposite end of the Fire Wire to create a loop and placed it on the grill until done. fire wire

Getting the food off the Fire Wire was a little tricky. The middle wire part was still easy to push it back and forth on, but getting the food back off the thick “needle” took some muscles. It wasn’t too hard, but compared to a bamboo skewer it was harder.

Would I purchase Fire Wire Stainless Steel Flexible Grilling Skewer, Set of 4 for someone else? Yes I would. I liked not worrying about the little pieces of bamboo that come off into the food. I liked how much food we were able to get onto just one flexible skewer. Little Chefs are able (with muscles) to thread their food onto them before allowing an adult to put it on the grill. The “needle” end is blunt. I had no complaints about anyone poking themselves during the threading process!

The last thing I would say is since the needle part is a lot thicker then I am used to, take that into consideration when chopping your ingredients. Be careful when poking your ingredients through the needle. We did have one onion split in two. We had no problems with the peppers or meat.

I am a mom to Five Little Chefs who love to cook and create anything with their hands. Watching over 10 additional hands keeps me busy but is so much fun! We laugh and cry everyday, but then want to do it again the next day. That is how we know we are enjoying life!
