Neptune Park

Discovering Utah with fivelittlechefs.com #utah

Twice now we have been to Neptune Park. The first time we went it was windy but we enjoyed it so much we had to go back. This time we took our own lunch and had a picnic first then played on the toys.

Where is it located?

452 W 400 N, Saratoga Springs, UT 84045

If you come from I-15 get off at Pioneer Crossing and go west as far as you can, UT-68. It is close after that.

How much does it cost?

FREE!

Is food allowed?

Yes! This is a public park.  There is a Pavilion available to be reserved.  This pavilion has electricity which is a great for a big party or pot luck picnic if you are wanting to warm something.

Are strollers allowed?

Yes!  There is a cement walkway around the playground area. I have seen strollers in the playground area, but you will be off roading on wood chips.

How close are the bathrooms?

Bathrooms are located beside the pavilion. I didn’t like that the doors were on the parking lot side because I could not see my kids go in while still keeping an eye on my other kids on the playground. We all had to go together to be safe. They do have flush toilets and running water with soap and hand dryers.

Is there a picnic area?

Yes! There is one pavilion with 12 tables that you can reserve.

Are there shaded areas?

There are some trees but they are not large enough that I would call them shade trees.

What should I expect?

Picture a playground area with wood chips in a sort of “L” shape. Starting from one side and moving toward the other you will see a climbing structure, 2 swings, a HUGE pyramid, a playground with a slide, some circular spinning toys, more swings including one adaptive swing. Across a small cement walkway is another playground for smaller children with a playground and smaller slide, play structure (house/store whatever you want it to be), large multi-person teeter totter.

You can either walk right into the playground area, or you will need to jump down or use a ramp. I have seen parents sitting on the edge with their feet dangling watching their kids. There is grass next to the edge where many people picnic. The grass here is very used so it is half grass half dirt. It is about the width of a parking strip. A cement walkway is next which runs around the entire playground. Outside even further are park benches every now and then.

There is a soccer field at this park and an even larger grassy area to play. There is a stage like area with a triangle canopy over the top which would seem like it could be used for entertainment.

You might want to bring a chair to sit on if you will be staying in one place and your own shade. The first time we went was after school and it was very busy. The second time was at lunch time and it was pretty busy. I anticipate this park is heavily used…and I can see why.

Any safety concerns?

This playground area is large. Luckily I have 4 girls that run around so we enforce the buddy system, especially at this park. This way I only had to watch 2 groups and not 4 kids which still was a difficult task!

Bring a lot of water. The water fountain is over by the edge of the pavilion near the bathroom…not close to the playground. At least not close enough I would allow my kids to go to alone.

Overall opinion?

We really like the variety this park has to offer. My kids spent most of their time climbing on the pyramid. It took my 3 year old the second trip for her to feel comfortable on the pyramid to climb to the very top. There is a net halfway up to catch someone if they fall from the very top as they are climbing up or down. I was still worried, but knew that if I didn’t push my kids and if they didn’t push each other they would only climb as far as they were comfortable with.

This is a park I could see us frequenting regularly, just be aware it is busy.

I am a mom to Five Little Chefs who love to cook and create anything with their hands. Watching over 10 additional hands keeps me busy but is so much fun! We laugh and cry everyday, but then want to do it again the next day. That is how we know we are enjoying life!
