Today we are sharing a craft that can be done with what is already in your home! I love it when I don’t need to go to the store for more supplies for a simple craft with my little ones. Materials:
- paper plate (technically the sturdier the better, ours didn’t work as well as it could)
- glue
- scissors or paper cutter
- 1 piece brown construction paper
- 1 piece yellow construction paper
- 1 piece orange construction paper
- colored markers
- pencil
I do allow my Little Chefs to use this paper cutter. Cut strips with the yellow construction paper in a variety of widths. Isn’t that perfect for little hands because two things are never alike. This will be the hair. Line up the cut strips and using a pair of scissors cut the strips in half so they are shorter. You could also cut the paper in half like a hot dog and then cut the strips. Either way works.
Using the brown piece of paper and a pencil draw a hat shape and cut out. It can be round at the top or pointy…whatever you desire. Using the orange paper and pencil draw a bow tie and cut out. Using the paper cutter, cut a rectangle from the orange paper. (This will be the band on the hat.)
Now that all your pieces are cut out it is time to glue. On your paper plate add some glue where the hair should go on the side. Lay your “hair” (yellow strips) in a variety of directions to give character.
Do the same on both sides and at the top.Next, glue the hat on top of the hair, but allow some of the top hair to show below. Add a few pieces on top of the hat on the right and left sides.
Measure the orange rectangle so it does not stick out farther then the hat. Cut it if needed. Glue the rectangle on top of the hat. Glue the bow tie to the bottom of the plate.
With a marker add the eyes, nose, mouth and freckles. There you have a scarecrow made out of just a few items you probably already have at home.
