Day 5 post-op, Sunday

Day 5

She slept so much better last night! We decided to only wake her once to give her medicine. That meant she would be a little off schedule but she would be able to sleep more. She woke up with her head hurting some. We immediately gave her medicine. Surprisingly she wasn’t thrashing in pain she just seemed uncomfortable. After holding her and patting her for a little while she was fine and wanted to play with her sisters. It was a full day of playing!

She walked up and down the stairs a lot today. We have been very cautious so she was always holding the hand of someone..until later in the day when she was fine. I still tell her to go slow. She also  jumped up and down excited about something without holding on to anything. We were happy to see her do all those tasks! Sometimes she asks what things are so I find myself now naming everything I give her or show her.

Besides Haley wanting to watch Tangled over and over (only once today! we distracted her with playing with her sisters!) she says in a very low voice, “give me some gum gum.” Remember Easter Island from Night of the Museum?! That was a movie we watched the week before her surgery. She also sings “Bom dia” a Portuguese song Little Chef C sings in her immersion class. She wants to eat mainly cheetos and cheese crackers. At least she will feed those to herself. Anything requiring a spoon or a fork she will try a couple bites then tell us she can’t find her mouth and gives up.

Little Chef C was worried about going to church today and letting everyone see her scar. She asked if I could do her hair differently so it would be hidden. I reassured her first that she needed to stay home today and second that in a couple days when we could take her out I would cover her scar with her hair. She is still a little cautious with her head. She does not want me to comb it out and I’m not pushing the issue. I’m sure anyone who knows what she just went through would understand her bad hair day.

Funny quote of the day: Little Chef C came up to me today and very quietly said, “Usually Haley lies when she tattle tells, but this time she said she was the one who hurt her sister. That brain tumor really helped.” Hmmm, not sure about that but nice observation of her change in behavior.

Today was definitely the best day yet!

I am a mom to Five Little Chefs who love to cook and create anything with their hands. Watching over 10 additional hands keeps me busy but is so much fun! We laugh and cry everyday, but then want to do it again the next day. That is how we know we are enjoying life!
