Taco Skillet Dinner

Our busy season has already started! We have soccer, piano, volleyball and gymnastics at night during the week making it hard for dinner. Only some of us are home for dinner or we are eating in the car on the way or between places. For the next 8 weeks dinner time at my house is crazy and hard. Crock pot meals make easy recipes as well as one dish meals. One of our favorite one dish meals is this Taco Skillet Dinner.  This taco skillet dinner is so versatile. It can be eaten on a bed of ...

Play Money Coins

My kids love to play store, restaurant, tea party and all that jazz! Not only do they love the play food but they love the play money. They even use the pretend credit cards that come in the mail. The play money coins that you can sometimes find are great. The dollar bills, not so great. I always find the paper money crumpled up or ripped. When I try to throw it away but I can't because my kids NEED money. I was tired of the paper money so I convinced them to only use coins. However, ...

Save on Kidgets Diapers at Family Dollar

I have tried many different diapers with my 5 kids. When I was offered a chance to work on a sponsored campaign on behalf of Family Dollar, I was excited to try Kidgets Diapers. This is one diaper that amazingly I have not previously tried. Parents with young children spend an enormous amount of money on diapers. These are a necessity so we endure the cost, however it never stopped me from finding better deals. Anything to save a little here and there is a good thing. Kidgets diapers ...

Easy Peach Pie

It is peach season! One of my trees is producing large beautiful peaches that are ready to be picked. My girls helped me pick a few and wanted to make an easy recipe. We decided to make Easy Peach Pie. This recipe can be prepped and in the oven within 15 minutes! The peaches can easily be prepared by using a trick I'll share, the butter/flour/sugar mixture is combined in a food processor and the crust is premade. Put it all together and it is ready to cook. The cooking and cooling time is ...

Candy and Ice Experiment

One thing I want to instill upon my children is that there are many people in this world besides them. When we only think about ourselves we are not aware of the ways we can help others. I seem to be teaching this to my kids over and over again. It does become redundant unless I find a new analogy to use to make it seem like a new and exciting concept. I recently ran across a snippet of the candy and experiment. I took the idea and ran with it. Candy and Ice Experiment Supplies ...

Chalk Couture

Good old fashioned chalk boards are back. Perhaps not in schools, but in homes, stores and at parties! Chalkboards allow your creativity to take over. You don't need to be super creative or perfect the first time because if you don't like it, just erase and start all over again. Let me introduce you to Tara Roark and her company Chalk Couture. She has elevated the plain old chalkboard to new heights. Here are 3 reasons I love Chalk Couture. The chalk boards are magnet boards. I find ...

Grow Your Own Stalactites and Stalagmites

We recently went on vacation to Carlsbad Canyons in New Mexico. My kids loved seeing so many stalactites and stalagmites. Through the Junior Ranger Program they learned the difference between the two. Stalactites hold tight to the ceiling while stalagmites might reach the ceiling. This science experiment is fun to watch each day as the crystals grow a little more and a little more. Grow Your Own Stalactites and Stalagmites Supplies Needed:  2 glass jars spoon shallow dish or ...

Shadow Chalk Experiment

I love teaching my kids through play or in other words through active learning. They have fun through discovery while not realizing they are learning something new. This past weekend I taught my kids about the movement of the sun while playing with chalk on a sunny day. For this shadow chalk experiment we traced some shadows and later came back to those objects, still in the same place. The first observation my kids made was that the shadow moved. What happened and why does that happen they ...

Thanks for RISING to the Task

My kids were out of school for 3 weeks in July. We (my kids and myself) were gone for pretty much that entire time. We had 2 family reunions, went to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon then all the way down to Carlsbad Caverns (stopping at many places to see in between), up to my parents cabin, swimming, rodeo, shooting bows and arrows....a lot of family time. We had SO much fun that we were exhausted at the end. We came home to a party, had one day to regroup and prepare for school then off we ...

Decluttering Tips

It is back to school season. One thing many people do when preparing for school is to buy new school clothes and new school supplies. Where will you put the new items?  What do you do with the old clothes and the old supplies? Are you someone who keeps them for later (“One day I might need them”) or are you one who gets rid of anything the moment it is replaced? Clutter happens over time. Slowly, as new items are added, things pile up if old, worn out, less-usable ones are not discarded ...

Watermelon Spears – How To Cut A Watermelon

We recently spent a few fun days at a family reunion. At one of the meals we had watermelon as I'm sure many people do at a large gathering. When I saw my kids eating it I thought, what a smart idea! Why didn't I think of this way to cut a watermelon? You know I love easy recipes so of course I would love this easy watermelon preparation and delivery. Before we cut the watermelon we need to pick the best watermelon. When you walk into the grocery store or farmers market you will find ...
