Mother’s Day Menu Ideas

We all know Mom's deserve a break at least once a year on Mother's Day. To help out those husbands and Little Chefs who want to take over the cooking for the day I've compiled some of our easiest recipes. Mom's it might be best to send this link as a not so subtle hint hint. In my experience subtle doesn't always work. Beef Stroganoff - A crockpot meal. Just dump everything in and wait. Serve on top of rice or noodles. Fettuccine Alfredo - a great cook the noodles then dump everything ...

Summer Calendar

When spring hits I start to think ahead to school getting out and the beginning of summer. This year for me it is very different because we recently moved which meant a new school which unfortunately is a year round school. While some of my Little Chefs will still be in school I still have more Little Chefs at home who want to go out and do things. Summer is the best time when it is warm to do a lot of investigating of our local sites as well as road trips. To help aid in planning fun summer ...

Pork Carnitas

Cinco de Mayo is just around the corner. While this recipe was not designed for that purpose, because I forgot, it is good timing though that I finally found a recipe I love for pork carnitas! The best thing I love about this recipe is everything goes into the slow cooker at night and by morning it is done. I can shred the pork before the day really gets crazy. It makes dinner super fast which is necessary on some nights! A pork shoulder (or pork butt roast) is necessary to use. Yes it has ...

Summer Fun Sailboat

The weather is getting warmer!! And my Little Chefs LOVE to play outside......especially if there is water involved! So we came up with a Summer Fun Sailboat that is one of those easy crafts for kids. Water + Sun + Little Chefs = Hours of Fun and Happiness!!! The Little Chefs wanted to do a fun activity outside today, and because we had just walked in the door from school......I had no ideas for an activity.  I asked them to look around for an idea and find supplies  to make ...

Casserole Night With Country Crock #CountryCrockStars

Thank you Country Crock for sponsoring this post. With my Little Chefs, life tends to get a bit crazy.....especially at dinner time. Those are the times we pull out the casserole recipe cards. Casseroles are a fast, simple, and not to expensive way to feed our family. We love that we can toss the ingredients together and cook - this allows me to help my Little Chefs with homework, reading or just to play with them and have fun while dinner is cooking. Reasons we LOVE casseroles ...

Sponsored Post: Werther’s Sugar Free Candy

Thank you Werther's Original Sugar Free Candy for sponsoring this post. I think when it comes to a Sweet Tooth - my Little Chefs, and yes, I will admit myself as well - have a crazy Sweet Tooth!!  I recently have started to really pay attention to the amount of sugar My Little Chefs, and myself,  eat on a daily basis.  Maybe this came about because of our recent Dentist Appointments and also due to the fact that my sister-in-law was diagnosed with diabetes in her early 20's, she ...

Fast & Fantastic Chicken Salad

This is a family recipe that's great to use up your left over chicken. We will purposely cook a couple extra pieces of chicken for a dinner earlier in the week so we will already have my chicken ready to make this Fast & Fantastic Chicken Salad! Or some days, if you are like us - it is 4pm and we are at the store wondering what to make for dinner, we will just pick up a cooked rotisserie chicken - it also makes a delicious chicken salad.  For this recipe, we had a couple extra leftover ...

Caramel Cinnamon Rolls

I had posted the review and GIVEAWAY (enter here, it ends TONIGHT!!) for the Chinet Bakeware Set a couple of weeks ago - and made my ever-so-famous (well, at least with my friends and family!) Caramel Cinnamon Rolls. I had quite a few of you requesting the recipe, and you would like to try them out. Your wish is my command!!! We LOVE cinnamon rolls around our house. Yes, they are a bit time-consuming, but ohhh, so worth every minute! The nice thing about this recipe is that it makes two 9 ...

Teacher Appreciation – Pie Chart

Teacher Appreciation is in full swing at our school. The PTA sent out a schedule with what each student should bring/wear/do for that day. My Little Chefs have also told me there are fun posters up all over the school about the teachers. It is funny how easy crafts make something simple even more special. I hope the teachers are loving it as much as my kids are! Here is a door idea pie chart style! If you have a lot of students in your class you might need to make two pie charts on the ...

Teacher Appreciation

Teacher appreciation is coming up, the week of May 6th - 10th!! And like so many of you, I am so very grateful for the wonderful teachers in my Little Chefs life! They are truly amazing. So, put it on your calendar to give them a big THANK YOU for all they have done. Add in a printable or easy crafts to make it extra special. I am the Head Room Parent for Little Chef B's class.  Since, he is my oldest, and this is my first experience with all of this. It has been, at times - overwhelm...

Bite Sized Cinnamon Rolls

Cinnamon Rolls are so good, but they can be time consuming to make. Today we are sharing a very easy recipe Little Chefs can make with minimal supervision. Some of you have been asking about the Caramel Cinnamon Roll recipe that is featured on our Chinet Giveaway. (If you haven't entered go now before it closes!) Jenny will post that recipe on Monday so come back and check it out. Anything bite sized is cute to look at, but also very easy for Little Chefs to eat. I find myself making a lot ...

Cleaning House

It's that time of year again where we are ready for a good Cleaning House Spring Cleaning - deep clean the house, reorganize the drawers, rotate the closets......everything must be cleaned and organized or donated - this will be our mind-set for the next couple weeks!! The typical Spring Cleaning House used to be a pretty painless Saturday chore. However, now with 3 Little Chefs running around wanting to help out or making messes faster than I can keep things clean, I had to rethink the ...

Strawberry Muffins

We are HUGE strawberry fans! When they start showing up in the grocery store we get so excited. We purchased a big package, but after a couple days they seemed to be not as firm. Strawberry Muffins is a great recipe to use up those softer strawberries you are still wanting to consume. This recipe is easy for Little Chefs. The first step is to cut the strawberries into small pieces. The softness of the strawberries makes it easy for even Little Chef D to cut successfully. Strawberries are ...

Scrabble Wafers

National Scrabble Day is this Saturday. Little Chef D is learning how to read. I thought it would be fun to turn reading into playing with food! I first showed her how we were going to play. I wrote a few letters with frosting on the tops of a few Vanilla Wafers. I made some words and asked her to read them. At one point we read "ad" words switching out the beginning consonant.   She had so much fun she wanted to create some words on her own. When she had plenty of wafers out (for ...

Space Craft

National Space Day is coming up in the beginning of May! My Little Chefs love everything and anything to do with space. So, to celebrate - we wanted to make our own Space Ships!! What a fun space craft. We thought of a clever way to not only recycle some of our old CD's, but to also use some of the plastic Easter eggs that were still lying around the house! The Little Chefs LOVE these type of crafts - because there are no rules! They can use and make what ever type of Space Ship they ...

Phases of the Moon

In addition to the Space Ship Craft - I thought it would be fun to teach my Little Chefs the different Phases of the Moon.  Each night, especially in the summer time, they love to find the Moon - to see what "shape" it is. I have said before, that my Little Chefs and I LOVE Oreos! And while eating them one day, Little Chef E realized that the creme looked like a Moon. So I thought - what a fun way to teach them the different Phases of the Moon.....with Oreos! MoonPhases     ...

White Chocolate Peppermint Popcorn

A good friend of mine owned a store that sold specialty popcorn. I loved all the popcorn there! We had some peppermint candies and thought white chocolate peppermint popcorn would be good. The first thing we did was pulverize the candies. If this didn't work there was no need to go any farther without rethinking the idea. We got out our  Stick Hand Blender with Chopper Attachments, put the unwrapped candies inside and literally gave it a whirl. Amazingly it worked! The candies turned into ...

General Conference Packet

This weekend we have the wonderful opportunity to listen to General Conference. To any readers who might not be familiar with General Conference or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, go here or here to learn more about both. I know that it is a struggle at times for the Little Chefs to sit and watch Conference. So each year we try new and fun ideas to help keep their attention while listening to the Conference talks. Here are a few ideas that we are using this year! &nbs...

Kahula Pork

Spring has come and we are starting to get very involved in after school activities. Kahula Pork is a good meal option because you prepare it the night before. When we come home from the activity of the night the house smells good. The rice is started right away and dinner can be on the table in the time it takes for everyone to wash up, set the table and cut some fruits and veggies. The first step is to poke holes in your 6 pound pork shoulder or pork butt roast. Don't worry about ...

DIY Hair Accessories using the glue gun!

Hair accessories, too many, no way! My Little Chefs are always on the lookout for something new. With 4, possibly 5 girls we have a need for many different sizes, types and styles. I love shopping the clearance deals at craft stores! I love it even more when all the clearance is an additional 90% off! That is exactly what recently happened. I went into the store not expecting to find a lot, but secretly hoping there still are some good things there. It is SUPER hard to actually browse any store ...

Zesty Orange Bites

Zesty Orange Bites were created after a friend of mine introduced me to orange sugar. Last year we made Cinnamon Sugar Churros and loved them. In fact they were a hit for some friends of my Little Chefs. They all were able to make their own and had so much fun doing it. We merged two recipes together and came up with Zesty Orange Bites. The process is still simple and easy for Little Chefs to do. First, let the puff pastry thaw for about 30 minutes on the counter. We usually cannot wait ...

Melted Crayon Eggs – Coloring Easter Eggs

Melted Crayon Eggs is a PERFECT way of coloring easter eggs quickly. In fact its a great way to color a lot of eggs at once. I just love easy crafts! Remember when Little Chef D enjoyed making her Butterfly Melted Crayon Art?  We learned from that experience that grating crayons is a hard and long task if you do it by hand, but the result of melting the crayons is beautiful. We wanted to apply that technique to eggs. Ingredients: Hot hard boiled eggs Variety of crayons Grater ...

Cinnamon Texas Sheet Cake

Cinnamon Texas Sheet Cake! Can you believe we have NEVER made a sheet cake before? We have been loving the cinnamon flavor and decided to take a twist on the regular chocolate cake. I must admit this cake was perfect for me. I am not a cake person, but the cake to frosting ratio was just the right for my liking. The simplicity of frosting this cake is better than a regular cake. It is so fast and easy! Why have I not tried making this type of cake before? For this recipe it is easier to have ...

April Fool’s Free Printable

My Little Chefs LOVE April Fool's Day which is why I created this April Fool's Free Printable. The problem I have is they remember everything I do so somehow I need to do it bigger and better the next year. One of Little Chef A's favorite's was when I switched what was in her cookies package with nuts. She said she was confused for a moment and then remembered it was April Fool's Day. What I learned from that experience was the fact that I should have put a message in the package so that she ...
