Sponsored Post: Hoo-Rag

Have you ever heard of a Hoo-Rag? I hadn't either until I was contacted by the company to do a product review. A Hoo-Rag is a tubular bandana made from spandex. Because it is so stretchy it can be worn in many different ways. It can be a pony tail holder, a headband, a face mask and more. It is designed for indoor and outdoor sports activities for men and women. The fabric designs vary so don't worry men you won't be wearing anything girly...unless you really want to! I have found the ...

Heart String Theory

February 1st is just a few days away. As I have said before my Little Chefs LOVE holidays. This year, starting on February 1st, we are going to make a paper heart garland. For each act of love shown for another family member one heart will be added to our garland. We are excited to see how long our garland will be come February 14th! To get them excited about the idea we all sat down with different colors of construction paper in valentine colors; red, pink and white. They each practiced ...

Stitched Heart Garland

I made this super cute Stitched Heart Garland with my girls because it is an easy craft for our Valentine's Day decor and for one more very important purpose. This craft has two objectives: Valentine's Day is coming soon and my Little Chefs LOVE holidays! They love the food, the surprise, and especially love decorating! They find any boxes of decorations that I have and decorate the house themselves. If I do not have enough to make our home or their rooms festive enough they MAKE ...

Balsamic Strawberry Napoleons

Here at our house we love balsamic vinegar and we love strawberries! Today's Balsamic Strawberry Napoleons seemed like a quick dessert idea. With the various components of this dessert it took us longer to make then anticipated.  But we learned some things, if I was making this dessert for a dinner party I would cut the strawberries and make the whipping cream ahead of time.  Little Chef H was really wanting to help with this recipe. I'm pretty sure she just wanted to sneak as many strawb...

Happy National Pie Day!!!

To help us CELEBRATE one of our favorite desserts.......we would like to share with you one of our favorite pie recipes, our Caramel Apple Pie.  We have been on a long journey to find an Apple Pie recipe that we love., and would pass the approval of Chef Dad who LOVES apple pie.  With a few tweeks of many different recipes we have created one that is our favorite and our Little Chefs enjoy making, sharing and especially eating this wonderful dessert. This recipe we made has a few twists to ...

Marble Painting

My Little Chefs LOVE to paint! Whenever we are painting the house inside or out they want to help. Anytime they see their paints they want to do it NOW. I have a love/hate relationship with paint because it can be so messy with little ones! I always seem to have a little one who makes the biggest mess. I have seen people paint with cars or trucks, but at my house those are not common toys. Then I had an idea! We just went to a case lot sale at a local grocery store and after storing the ...

Danish Puff Pork Chops

I remember eating Danish Puff Pork Chops when I was young. My Little Chefs enjoy this meal occasionally at family dinner with Grandma and Grandpa, cousins...the whole gang! I recently learned my Grandmother used to make this for company when my mom was little. She even made it for my other set of Grandparents when they had a meal together when my parents got engaged. This recipe has history in my family so I wanted to teach it to my Little Chefs. Making danish puff pork chops with my ...

French Baguettes

Have you ever needed some bread at the last minute to go with a meal? We do, all the time! Every recipe I have needs more then an hour from start to finish. I had the opportunity to watch the Food Nanny in person make her French Baguettes and thought, "My Little Chefs can do that!" This recipe from start to finish can be done in one hour or less! When the Food Nanny demonstrated this recipe she did not use any machine. She said when she goes into the homes of families she always teaches ...

Easy Weave Scarf

Last November Little Chef A learned how to weave a scarf at school. She was so proud of her work she gave it to me for Christmas! I thought it was a great craft because she could do it with only one instruction session. I asked if she wanted to make another one to show others how to make it on the blog. She definitely wanted to do this! In fact she was telling me today's the day, its time to start, its time to take pictures, we need to do this today! So in this post I was doing whatever SHE ...

Breaded Ranch Parmesan Chicken

We seem to have chicken at least once per week in our home. The Little Chefs like it and it seems you can make it in so many different ways. I have heard of ranch chicken before, but I have never tried it myself. I have never eaten it, nor have I made it. This seemed like a great opportunity to figure out a new recipe. One of our goals this year is to be a little more adventurous with food. Last year we definitely were with letting the Little Chefs choose the meal and execute the meal. This ...

Iron Chef America Contestant was our Cousin!!!

This past Sunday I put my Little Chefs to bed and then turned on the Food Network for some relaxation. Iron Chef America was on because it was being recorded as usual to watch at a later date. Little Chef Dad was about to change the channel when I said, "Wait!" That is Viet Pham. We had seen him in a previous Food Network competition so I recognized him. I said, "I wonder if Bowman Brown is cooking as well." After not even a minute we saw him! Bowman Brown is a cousin! Viet and Bowman are the ...

Snowman Dice Game

The Snowman Dice Game is a great game that only requires basic and minimal supplies. Little Chef D had such a fun time playing this game! Little Chef H had a great time pretending to play with us as she drew lots of little circles on her paper. At least they were both having fun! Don't miss the Snowman Dice Game printable at the bottom of this post! The more we played The Snowman Dice Game more details Little Chef D wanted to add. In my key I did not put a flower in the hat like in the ...

New England Crock-Style Baked Beans

Sometime ago we were visiting my Aunt for a special occasion when we ate some really great Baked Beans! I couldn't ask for the recipe because this was a special occasion and the food was from a restaurant.  Here at home we were looking for ways to simplify our cooking, especially on the busy days so we started looking through the Better Homes and Gardens Crockery Cookbook. Every recipe is done in the crock pot. (I secretly would love to use the crock pot everyday because it seems so much ...

Drinking Straw Art

We looked at an online calendar which had a variety of celebrations and holidays. It seemed every day had a list of things we could celebrate. Some were foreign to us, and some sounded like a lot of fun! Today, according to the calendar, is Drinking Straw Day. I remember as a kid I doing an art project for an elementary school competition. I painted a tree trunk, blew paint through a straw for the branches, then added some "flowers" to make it a three dimensional project. I thought I could ...

Welcome 2013!

Welcome to the new design of Five Little Chefs! I was hoping to get everything set by today, but sadly that did not happen. Hopefully little changes here and there will not affect the performance of the site. My Little Chefs have enjoyed learning to cook this past year and would now like to expand their learning adventures. We will still be cooking once or twice a week as they do not want to stop that completely. We will be adding a day or two of crafts. Just as they like to create things by ...
