Drive In Food

Yesterday we posted a fun summer activity - we made Cardboard Box Cars! The Little Chefs then "drove" their cars to their own drive-in movie!!  What did we need to go with our drive-in movie adventure? Drive In Food!! We found these great little, disposable tin containers that include a lid at the dollar store, in a package of 3. They were all excited to have their very own, even though they were identical! We decided it would be great to compartmentalize the food using paper cupcake ...

Cardboard Box Cars

What to do with all your extra Cardboard Boxes? Create some summer fun and make Cardboard Box Cars!! In the past, we have taken the Little Chefs to a Drive-In Movie, and they LOVED it!! Recently we have had a lot of empty cardboard boxes around the house. And before I could send them out to the recycle bin - the Little Chefs were already busy putting their creative juices to work and making something fun.......they wanted to make a car to take to their OWN drive-in movie!! So the Little ...

Yogurt Fruit Dip

My Little Chefs love to dip anything and everything, especially Little Chef H! I can get her to eat anything if there is a dip to go with it. Today we are sharing with you a Yogurt Fruit Dip with only 4 ingredients. Little Chef A and C worked together for this recipe. They are realizing with a little team work recipes can be made even faster! I like that too! Little Chef A measured out the yogurt then passed the measuring of the sour cream to Little Chef C.   Little Chef A sprayed ...

Fun with Sidewalk Chalk

Have you ever wondered what happens when you mix sprinklers, sidewalk chalk and my Little Chefs?......... Hours of Fun with Sidewalk Chalk and colorful creations that don't just end up on the sidewalk - it ends up everywhere! On one hot afternoon, Chef Dad was outside working in the yard and fixing sprinkler problems that caused a flood in our basement last winter (and that story would be an entire blog post on its own!!!) The Little Chefs decided they wanted to run through the sprinklers ...

Butterscotch Oatmeal Cookies

There is something about Butterscotch in an Oatmeal Cookie that is just delicious! The other night we needed to make a quick treat to take over to a neighbor's home. The Little Chefs were looking through all our recipes to try to find something new or something they had not made for a while. They came across this Butterscotch Oatmeal Cookies recipe, and they all insisted that just had to make this recipe, even though we had just made a batch of them last week!! And yes, the entire batch was ...

Car Travel Games

I love to keep things organized and contained in the car well...to start out with at least. It seems like a few hours in and I'm telling them to clean up just like at home. We have gotten in the habit of pulling out all the garbage and putting things away at each gas station or stop we make. That seems to really help a lot! I had to search for a while, because all boxes are different sizes and shapes, before I found these blue boxes for my van. They fit perfectly under the last row. I can ...

Triple Travel Snack Bag

Do you have Little Chefs like me who love a variety of snacks, but who do not like them to mix? My Little Chefs have a hard time choosing just one snack. When we are traveling my goal is to keep them happy. Whatever it takes seems to be our motto on a long road trip. Today we are sharing our Triple Travel Snack Bag that Little Chef H could not put down. This is very simple to construct yet it yields great results. Ingredients 1 locking quart bag 3 locking sandwich bags duct tape ...

Memorial Day is all about grilling! To our family usually it is the beginning of a warm summer and school coming to an end. This year it still means the beginning of summer and grilling season, school however is another matter. This is a great hands on recipe for Little Chefs. Little Chef A was able to prepare the patties ALL by herself! Combine all the ingredients; ground chuck, kosher salt, pepper, onion powder, grated smoked gouda and worchestershire sauce.   Form the patties ...

Embellished Cuff

Do you have a leather or pleather coat or purse that you do not want anymore? If the answer is yes then you have the main material for our Embellished Cuff. This is the perfect idea for my Little Chefs because they absolutely LOVE reusing items instead of throwing them away. They are constantly trying to come up with something they can make with items that are not being used anymore. The Embellished Cuff is so fun to make because the possibilities are endless. You can use anything that ...

Grandma’s Potato Salad

Summer picnic season is just around the corner. Outdoor BBQ's, hamburgers and hot dogs, kids playing in the sprinklers, and plenty of Potato Salad. We made this Potato Salad from our Grandma's recipe. She pretty much makes the perfect Potato Salad (Wow, that was a lot of "P" words!). Grandma uses good old russet potatoes in her Potato Salad. We however, had red potatoes on hand, so that is what we used in our recipe this time - and we liked it just as much!! Little Chef K rinsed all the ...

Bird Feeder

Spring is here! The trees and flowers are in bloom. And we are starting to see and hear more & more birds! The Little Chefs have been worried that the birds are "starving" because we have no food for them in our backyard. Their grandparents have a big bird feeder in their backyard - and the Little Chefs love to watch and learn about the local birds. And also like to know that they are getting enough to eat, especially for the baby birds. Backyard bird feeders come in all different ...

Caramel Toffee Rice Krispie Treats

We LOVE anything Caramel and Toffee at our house. To be honest, I prefer that over chocolate!! That is why we decided to try out a new twist on one of our classic treats - and we came up with our Caramel Toffee Rice Kristpie Treats!! My Little Chefs wanted to make our classic, favorite Rice Krispie Treat. However, instead of just boring marshmallows - we wanted to step them up a bit. I had my Little Chefs rummage through the pantry to find some other ingredients we could add-in. They came ...

Summer Calendar

When spring hits I start to think ahead to school getting out and the beginning of summer. This year for me it is very different because we recently moved which meant a new school which unfortunately is a year round school. While some of my Little Chefs will still be in school I still have more Little Chefs at home who want to go out and do things. Summer is the best time when it is warm to do a lot of investigating of our local sites as well as road trips. To help aid in planning fun summer ...

Pork Carnitas

Cinco de Mayo is just around the corner. While this recipe was not designed for that purpose, because I forgot, it is good timing though that I finally found a recipe I love for pork carnitas! The best thing I love about this recipe is everything goes into the slow cooker at night and by morning it is done. I can shred the pork before the day really gets crazy. It makes dinner super fast which is necessary on some nights! A pork shoulder (or pork butt roast) is necessary to use. Yes it has ...
