3 Ingredient Strawberry Ice cream

strawberry ice cream

Growing up I remember the sound the ice cream maker made sitting in the bathtub while churning. I remember the sound it makes when it is almost done. My dad continues to make good homemade ice cream at some family dinners. I occasionally still hear that sound. I do not have an ice cream maker. Perhaps one day I will aquire one myself. This strawberry ice cream is very strawberry! When it is strawberry season this recipe is easy to whip up but it does take some time to set up. It is simple enough that my kids can make it on their own. The best part for them is letting everyone taste what they have created! Have I mentioned yet this recipe only has 3 ingredients. Yep, just strawberries, … [Read more...]

Peanut Butter Apple Crackers (with toppings!)

Peanut Butter Apple Crackers from fivelittlechefs.com is a simple snack kids can customize themselves! Go on, play with your food! #peanutbutter #apple #kidscooking

The kids come home from school and want a snack right away. Does that sound familiar? Our school gets out late in the day so I do not want to give them a lot to eat or they will not eat their dinner. Of course they are hungry so a little snack to keep them content until dinner is what they need. These Peanut Butter Apple Crackers are fun because the kids can choose their toppings. What kid doesn't like to play with their food! The first step is to wash and cut your apples. Add a splash of lemon juice to keep the apples from browning. Gently stir the apples and the juice together. We have found it best to put some peanut butter in a smaller container so that the actual peanut butter … [Read more...]

Strawberry Puffed Pastry Sandwich

Berries in sugar

We love quick desserts because they are great for kids to practice cooking from start to finish. A lot of times recipes are too lengthy in time so they don't make it all the way through without a lot of encouragement from me. Quick recipes are much simpler which usually means done in 15-30 minutes. The Little Chefs can see their progress and see they are close to the end when their attention starts to diminish which helps them continue on for just a few more minutes. I first started my love of puffed pastry when we made Baked Cinnamon Sugar Churros, yum! Then I moved on to Zesty Orange Bites.  To make the Strawberry Puffed Pastry Sandwich you first need to thaw your puffed … [Read more...]

Simple Chocolate Sauce

Simple Chocolate Sauce from fivelittlechefs.com

Do you ever need a last minute dessert? Every now and then while eating dinner my Little Chefs ask if we could have dessert. I usually start to panic and think what do we have already made that can be a dessert. Sometimes we have more options then others, but we always seem to have ice cream. So then the question arrives how do we embellish the ice cream? We always have sprinkles, unless Little Chef H finds the latest hiding place and eats them out of the container! A simple chocolate sauce is the answer. All we need is milk chocolate chips, a little bit of heavy cream and about 5 minutes. Now that is something we can make and still get to bed on time. In a small saucepan on low combine … [Read more...]

Vanilla Mixed Berry Popsicle

Vanilla Mixed Berry Popsicle from fivelittlechefs.com A fun summer treat to cool you down. #popsicle #vanillaberry #recipe

Popsicles are a big part of summer in our house. My Little Chefs go outside to play but then it seems almost immediately they come back in asking for a popsicle. I'm amazed at what they can do with a popsicle hanging out of their mouths! We found they molds one day while shopping and thought we could try making our own. The good part is the mixing of the ingredients is very quick. The bad part is they have a hard time waiting for four hours until they are sufficiently frozen to eat. In a bowl add the berries, sugar and vanilla extract. Let sit for about 15 minutes to produce juice. In a blender add the berry mixture and yogurt. Blend until smooth. Strain mixture … [Read more...]

Funnel Cake

Funnel Cake from fivelittlechefs.com A delicious dessert with ingredients from your pantry. #funnelcake #recipe

My only memory of funnel cake is being at an amusement park with family and my sisters boyfriend. As I recall he loved funnel cakes and had to get one upon seeing them. My Little Chefs have never been in a location where funnel cakes were served. A friend gave us a funnel cake kit and we have had a great time using it and creating our own memories. We describe funnel cake like a donut. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside with just enough sweetness from cinnamon and powdered sugar dusted over the top. The recipe is very simple and made from common pantry ingredients. I absolutely love recipes that use common ingredients. I feel like I can make it spur of the moment without planning … [Read more...]

Patriotic Old Fashioned Candied Popcorn

Patriotic old Fashioned Candied Popcorn by fivelittlechefs.com - this old fashioned candied popcorn is fast and so yummy. Perfect for parties and celebrations #popcorn #candy #recipe #party food

This recipe came from my Grandma. I remember helping her make this popcorn when I was young, and she teaching me how to get the candy coating to "soft ball stage". I then remember this being the best popcorn ever made. I have never made this popcorn since I was was young, which seems like forever ago. And I was thinking about her the other day, and all the memories I had spending time with her.  So I wanted to share a memory I have of my grandma with my Little Chefs, and make with them this Old Fashioned Candied Popcorn. My grandma would always make it pink, but since the 4th of July is right around the corner, I thought we would make Patriotic Old Fashioned Candied Popcorn! The Little … [Read more...]

Dutch Oven Peach Cobbler

Dutch Oven Peach Cobbler by fivelittlechefs.com - a very simple & delicious dutch oven dessert #Dutch Oven #Peach Cobbler #for campers #recipe

My Little Chefs LOVE to camp and to also spend time with Grandma and Grandpa up at their cabin. There is nothing quite like the outdoors - playing (REAL playing - with rocks, sticks and A LOT of dirt), roasting marshmallows on the fire, taking hikes, spending quality time with friends and family!! One of our favorite things to do while at the cabin and while camping is cook with our Dutch Ovens. What makes the food amazing is not only the taste, and the simplicity, but the experience in making the food. Grandpa gets everything set up and  prepare the coals, as we sit and wait  - we all get to play, talk and hang out with Grandpa.  The Little Chefs help prepare the food in the Dutch Ovens … [Read more...]
