Play Money Coins

My kids love to play store, restaurant, tea party and all that jazz! Not only do they love the play food but they love the play money. They even use the pretend credit cards that come in the mail. The play money coins that you can sometimes find are great. The dollar bills, not so great. I always find the paper money crumpled up or ripped. When I try to throw it away but I can’t because my kids NEED money.

I was tired of the paper money so I convinced them to only use coins. However, many of those coins have become lost. They are gray which somehow makes them magically disappear. I decided to make my own play money coins so that they wouldn’t get lost and we wouldn’t need to use the paper money.

What is so great is that this only took me 15 minutes to make! I love easy crafts like this!

Directions:

  1. Separate your wood circles piles of the same size. I wanted to get 4 different sizes of circles but I could only find one package with 3 different sizes, one of which was too small to use. So, I decided to make only coins with values of 5 and 25. With the size of stamp I used the numbers fit perfectly onto the coins.
  2. Stamp the coin value on each coin. That’s it! It is super quick and easy. Just the type of easy craft I like to do. DIY play money coins for your play kitchen. Super easy to make!

Depending on the size of stamp and circles you find it would be fun to create even more coin values. I really wanted each size to be a different value so that they would be easy to sort and identify.

Another option would be to paint the wood disks first. You can paint the different values different colors to help with sorting if they are the same size. But, I wanted to make this is a super easy craft so I opted not to paint.

These play money coins fit perfectly in our cash register drawer. My kids are excited because this is something new. I am excited because I don’t need to pick up and flatten any more paper thin play money.
